Fish oil supplements that contain DHA (the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid) are marketed to pregnant women as a way to support brain development. After all, who doesn’t want their child to be smart?

However most clinical trials that have examined the impact of DHA on brain development are underpowered – that is, they don’t contain adequate subject numbers to draw reasonable conclusions – or have methodological limitations.

Delicious chocolate banana bread

Delicious Banana Bread from my massage therapist.

A great way to use up any super ripe bananas and also a lovely 3pm snack.

Packed with lots of healthy ingredients, you won’t feel guilty about eating this one.

Banana bread recipe
Ingredients
  • 3 bananas
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup almond meal
  • 1 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 cup cacao
  • 1/2 cup cacao butter (or normal unsalted butter)
  • 1/2 cup rapadura sugar
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Splash of almond milkMethod
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees c
  2. Line 10cm x 20cm loaf tin with baking paper
  3. Mash 2.5 bananas in a separate bowl
  4. Melt cacao butter then add to sugar
  5. Beat until combined
  6. Sift and add all dry ingredients to mixture including eggs and gently combine
  7. Add milk, bananas and fold through
  8. Pour into the lined tin and slice the half banana lengthways and place on top
  9. Sprinkle banana with a little rapadura sugar
  10. Bake for app.
